Text QR Code Generator
Not every QR code needs to point somewhere online. A text QR code stores the message itself, so whoever scans it reads your words directly — no web page to load, no connection required. It's a simple way to attach instructions, a quote, a serial number, or a quick note to anything physical.
Type your message below and generate a code in seconds. Because the text lives inside the code itself, it'll still work even if the person scanning it is offline.

How to make a text QR code
- Type or paste your message into the Text box. Notes, codes, instructions and short messages all work.
- Choose your colors and add a logo if you want one. Dark modules on a light background is the most reliable combination.
- Pick Small (512 px) or Large (1280 px) and download the PNG or SVG.
Tips for a text QR code that scans reliably
- Keep it short. Every extra character makes the squares smaller, and a few hundred characters is comfortable for almost any phone.
- A text code shows the message but is not a clickable link. If you want people to open a page, use the Website generator instead.
- Avoid decorative characters and emoji where you can. They make the code denser without adding meaning.
- Scan the finished code once on an iPhone and once on an Android phone to check the text appears exactly as you typed it.
Text QR code: frequently asked questions
How much text can a QR code hold?
A QR code can hold a few thousand characters at most, but the more you add, the denser and harder to scan it becomes. Under a few hundred characters scans quickly on almost any phone.
Does the phone need an internet connection to read it?
No. The text is stored in the code itself, so it can be read with no connection at all.
Can the text contain a link?
Some scanners recognise a web address inside plain text and offer to open it, but behaviour varies. For links, use the Website generator, which is built for it.
