Privacy Policy & Data Practices
Last updated: September 22, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information qrlama ("we", "us") collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. qrlama is a QR code generator: the core tool runs entirely in your browser, and creating an account is optional.
Information we collect
Information you provide
If you create an account, we collect your name, your email address, and either a password (stored only as a one-way hash, never in readable form) or a link to your Google account if you sign in with Google. If you choose to save a QR code, we store the data you entered for it (for example a URL, Wi-Fi network name and password, or contact details), its label and its styling. If you create or join a team, we also store the team's name, its members and their roles. We do not require an account to generate or download QR codes.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our hosting provider may automatically log standard technical data such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited and timestamps. This is used for security and diagnostics.
Editable QR codes and scan statistics. If an account holder makes a code “editable”, the QR code contains a short qrlama link instead of the data itself, so that its content can be changed later. When someone scans such a code, our server looks up its current content and records the scan for the code's owner: the time, the device type, operating system and browser (from the browser's user agent), and — only if our hosting provider supplies it — the country. We do not store the scanner's IP address; to estimate how many different people scanned, we keep a hash of the connection and browser that changes every day and cannot be reversed. Visits by search-engine and link-preview robots are ignored. Codes that are not editable never contact our servers when scanned.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use only a small number of essential cookies and browser storage (localStorage):
- Session and security cookies: keep you signed in and protect forms against forgery. They are set by our own server.
- Preferences: your light/dark theme choice and your acknowledgement of the cookie notice.
We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser's settings; doing so may sign you out or reset your theme preference, but the core QR generator will keep working.
How we use information
- To provide and operate the QR code generation and account features
- To keep the service secure and working correctly
- To respond to support requests sent to the email below
Third-party services
We rely on a small number of third parties to run this site:
- Our hosting provider — runs the servers and database on which the site and account data are stored.
- Google — only if you choose “Continue with Google”; we receive your name and email address from Google to sign you in.
- An email delivery service — sends account emails you request (password resets, confirmations, team invitations).
Your choices and rights
You can generate and download QR codes without ever creating an account or being tracked beyond standard technical logging. If you have an account, you can delete any saved code yourself from the My codes page, change your details from the Account page, and delete your whole account there at any time; this permanently removes your saved codes and their scan history.
Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR in the EU/UK, or CCPA in California), you may have additional rights to access, correct, or export your data — contact us to exercise these.
Data retention
Account, saved-code and scan-statistics data is kept until you delete it or delete your account. Technical logs are retained only as long as needed for security and diagnostics.
Children's privacy
qrlama is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
